multiband delay

I made my first Max MSP plug-in! Yayay, Multiband Delay.

Here's a sample MP3, in the style of a gigantic European company.

Splits a stereo signal into 4 bands (adjustable frequencies, filter steepness, and ripple), then it pans/delays/gains each band separately. Woo hoo!

Unfortunately it's a pain to install, you need the Pluggo runtime, and must put the plug-in and Chebyshev filter module in various places. Also it's unstable, extreme values will cause the filters to feed back on themselves. But WE ARE OFF TO A GOOD START, y/n.

Ever messed with Jeskola Buzz? (yea, I know its PC only.) Id be pretending I know a lot more about this than I do, but it looks similar..

Nah, this is way lower level than Buzz. This is more like a modular synth, where Buzz is like wiring effects units together. (I used Buzz to produce my crappy music for several years.)

How did you like Buzz? Is it versatile?

It's fun, I ultimately felt like the interface/paradigm used was pretty inefficient, and I would be more productive if I weren't fighting it all the time. Also a lot of the "machines" (synths/effects) were buggy, and would crash, make yr song go silent (NaNs and Infs, yay), not sound the same when you reloaded the file the next day, etc.

That said, I never found anything better. I just stopped making real music.

Oh, and the ultimate reason I stopped using it was, the only computer I had that booted Windows stopped working. Until then, I would still occasionally go into Buzz despite hating it.

That looks pretty fun! No, never tried it. I use Ableton Live for basically everything these days, they have realtime Max MSP integration coming this year, so there will be no excuses for unoriginal music anymore.
